The Riverside Arts Center is pleased to present Riverside artist, Matthew Katz's first solo exhibition of paintings and drawings at the Riverside Town Hall. Please join us for a reception for the artist on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. The Town Hall is located at 27 Riverside Road, a short block from the Riverside Arts Center. Refreshments will be served in RAC’s sculpture garden.
Dots and Loops explores fantastical intersections of nature and technology. Offered through the lens of awe, these pieces explore how technology and nature might augment each other in an imagined reality. Floating orbs appear throughout, evidencing areas of successful integration. Within any city or area of flora, look for miniatures repeating like fractals. For some extra fun, explore the pieces with blacklight flashlights, leading to hidden details.

Matthew Katz is a Riverside artist, husband, father of two (ages 8 and 6) and an elementary school principal at a Chicago charter school. After being inspired by folk art at a birthday party, Matt began zentangling in black ink at age 32. He continues to create works inspired by the repetitive patterns of the process, while focusing on themes of nature and technology. Katz has exhibited with Femme II in Berwyn and in the Riverside Arts Center's annual Members Exhibitions from 2022 to the present. He hosts the Riverside Arts Center's Art Jam Tuesdays, a weekly community art-making night.
