Matthew Katz is a Riverside, Illinois-based artist whose vibrant, densely detailed paintings explore the interplay between the natural world, technology, and imagination. Working primarily in acrylic and watercolor, Katz draws inspiration from observed nature, remembered places, and unexpected visual fragments, building intricate worlds shaped by the repetitive mark-making of his early practice in Zentangle. Many of his works incorporate UV-reactive materials, revealing hidden details under black light and inviting viewers to return, explore, and find something new.

His work has been featured in group exhibitions throughout the Chicago area, and in 2025 he presented his first solo exhibition, Dots and Loops, at Riverside Arts Center. Katz is also the founder and administrator of Art Jam Tuesdays, a weekly community art-making program at Riverside Arts Center. He lives in Riverside with his wife, a teacher, and their two children.
